Welcome to the 542nd Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature over the past seven days.

The highlights of this week's edition are a randomised controlled trial on nasal high-flow therapy during neonatal endotracheal intubation; systematic reviews and meta analyses on acetate- versus lactate-buffered crystalloid solutions & oxygen targets during mechanical ventilation; and observational studies on ventilator-associated events in children &  clinical subtypes in sepsis-survivors.

There are also narrative reviews on multimodality monitoring for delayed cerebral ischemia in subarachnoid hemorrhage & temporary mechanical circulatory support; editorials on EEG monitoring after cardiac arrest & the resilient intensive care unit; and commentaries on permissive azotemia during acute kidney injury & clinical trial management; as well as correspondence on the survival benefit of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in severe COVID‑19 & why full enteral nutrition should be avoided among patients with a high vasopressor dose and low flow state.

Critical Care Reviews Meeting 2022

If you are interested in critical care trials and the scientific evidence which underpins our practice, the Critical Care Reviews Meeting is the event for you. With 6 major trial results, reviews of 8 of the best trials of the past year, three panel discussions and the annual honorary John Hinds Lecture, our scientific programme is second to none. With a run and either pilates or yoga classes on Thursday and Friday mornings, and live music every night, our social programme isn't bad either. 

For those who have registered for CCR22, accommodation is anticipated to be limited in Belfast in mid-June as the city will be very busy. if you haven't yet booked your hotel, please do so. Our delegate rates are available on the meeting webpage. Similarly, the social events are also filling up, so please book these soon if you plan to attend them. They come with live music, food and drink. We have limited space left in our free, on-site, professional creche too!
