The Critical Care Reviews Book 2022 was released at CCR22
Welcome to the 551st Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature for the week of June 27th to July 3rd.
The highlights of this week's edition are randomised controlled trials on methylprednisolone pulses in hospitalized patients with severe Covid-19 pneumonia & emergency vs delayed coronary angiogram in survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest; systematic reviews and meta analyses on early spontaneous breathing for acute respiratory distress syndrome in individuals with COVID‐19 & loop diuretics in adult intensive care patients with fluid overload; and observational studies on how doctors manage conflicts with families & intracranial pressure monitoring in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.
There is also a guideline on organ donation after controlled circulatory death; narrative reviews on the pathophysiology of sepsis-associated AKI & chronic critical illness and post-intensive care syndrome; editorials on ventilator-associated pneumonia & learning for the next pandemic: when high level evidence is not readily available; and commentaries on the prevention of intra-vascular accesses complications & noninvasive respiratory support in intensive care medicine; as well as correspondence on frailty in the ICU & hypoxaemia in COVID-19.
If you only have time to read one review article this week, try this one on iatrogenic opioid withdrawal syndromes in adults in intensive care units.
