Nick Crombie presents the RePHILL trial at CCR22
Welcome to the 558th Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature over the past seven days.
The highlights of this week's edition are randomised controlled trials on the effects of remote ischemic conditioning on neurologic function in patients with acute moderate ischemic stroke & an inhaled Galectin-3 inhibitor for COVID-19 pneumonitis; systematic reviews and meta analyses on dexmedetomidine versus propofol sedation in mechanically ventilated critically ill adults & fluid bolus administration in children; and observational studies on the clinical spectrum of children with acute hepatitis of unknown cause & how mental health-related quality of life is related to delirium in intensive care patients.
There are also guidelines on pediatric ventilator liberation & unrecognised oesophageal intubation; narrative reviews on spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage & how to improve intubation in the intensive care unit; editorials on macro- and micro-circulatory uncoupling in cardiogenic shock & pulmonary air leak in COVID-19; and commentaries on instrumental assessment in disorders of consciousness & devices for targeted temperature management.
If you only have time to read one review article this week, try this one on hemoperfusion in the intensive care unit.
The latest visual abstract from Jakub Fronczek is on the RePHILL trial, which coincides with this being the latest presentation to be released from CCR22.
